Question ID: 576357
I need to find an alternative to a product called IDVIEWS, which is
located on the web at http://www.idviews.com/. Products submitted to
answer my question should be web-based technologies that can index and
correlate multiple fields of data and fascilitate admission to
security and safety sensitive work sites much like IDVIEWS can.

The basic model is based around safety credentials such as drug test
records and safety training requirements being available to multiple
sites so that redundant testing/training is not necessary.

This is a sensitive matter that should not be disclosed in any way to
the staff of IDVIEWS. I am merely a vendor who is looking to cut
costs for my customers by providing alternatives, and hopefully create
a more competetive cost structure. I have not been able to find
anything similar and have also been told that there is not
anything/one out there that can compete with IDVIEWS. I hope that you
can prove them wrong.

Hello billeh23-ga:

As my colleague Easterangel-ga noted, all comments published at this
site can be viewed by anyone.

However, since we use nicknames or handles here, not real names, your
identity is protected.

I think I'm in the right ballpark, but could you tell me if these
products meet your needs? Both of these programs, like IDVIEWS, meet
the requirements laid out in Homeland Security Presidential Directive
12.

ActivCard:
http://www.activcard.com/en/products/index.php

Here's a March 3, 2005 press release from the company:
http://www.secureidnews.com/news/2005/03/03/activcard-supports-homeland-security-presidential-directive-12/

"ActivCard supports Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 . . .
Security access provider ActivCard Corp., has announced its planned
support of HSPD-12 with FIPS 201 certified applets, card management
and client software based on open standards. System integrators and
government clients will be able to integrate the ActivCard products
with other functional components to provide a complete HSPD 12
solution. . . ."

SAFLINK:

" As a leader in the authentication and security field, we are the
only company that can offer an award-winning security solution that
will expand to meet the needs of your entire enterprise ? from the
doorway to the desktop":

And:

If I'm way off base here, let me know and I'll release the lock and
let one of my colleagues take a crack at this!

It's easier to read the March 2005 ActivCard press release at this link:
http://www.activcard.com/en/newsroom/7_1_59_activcard_pr_030205.php
than at the link I gave you earlier.

Here's another possibility:

A.M.S. Advanced Maintenance Systems Ltd:
http://www.ams-sys.com/ams-sys/index.html

"AMS is introducing advanced Web-based technology for tracking &
monitoring workplace safety and health compliance."

Click on "Health & Safety At Work" graphic to bring up:
http://www.ams-sys.com/ams-sys/all_safety.html

Then you can click on the graph that comes up, or click on this link
"Visual Work Safety Compliance" to bring up the "Product Overview"
page, where you can explore all the program's features.

The possibilities listed are in the right direction, however, I need
to emphasize aspect web interface. It needs to be scalable in order
to include multiple genres of industry.

Incorporating the terms "aspect web interface" and "scalable" into my
search strings brought up new hits, but they were for products for
specific industries, such as healthcare, or for one specific
application (e.g., claim management or accounting).

Here's the only option I found that matched the search terms, and that
isn't confined to one industry or procedure:

Australian-based SGS:
http://www.au.sgs.com/bhp_billito_mt_arthur_coal_au?viewId=5478

From a case study at that page:

"SGS works with BHP Billiton at a number of their sites across
Australia. The issue is how to effectively manage access and site
safety with multiple contractors at all times. The most recent
installation was at their Mt Arthur Coal site in February 2003. This
is a typical example of a busy site, which requires 24hour/7day access
by over 1500 contractors and staff. There are multiple access areas,
in this case a main reception centre or two other ?muster ? points
onsite.

"*The solution had to be scalable* and integrated with the company?s
existing access technology systems. Four separate card readers with
their associated label printers are installed, which means that *all
access is monitored and a label issued with photo and id included for
everyone on site.*
"The system has 5 administrators, although the system easily can scale
to 25 users. All are linked to a local SQL database which is
dynamically updated by the central SGS data exchange via an ISDN link.
. . ."

SGS has offices around the world:
http://www.sgs.com/sgs_around_the_world.htm

Here's their North American page:
http://www.us.sgs.com/home_us/about_us_us/in_brief_us
Contact information for their North American headquarters (located in
Rutherford, NJ) is in the top right hand corner.

Scroll down that page to see: "SGS North America Inc. Industrial
Services Division is a true global service provider for technical
verification, inspection, testing and conformity assessment in
industrial markets. Accredited for numerous governmental regulations
and national and international standards, Industrial Services is your
local partner with global experience and connections. We are ready to
go further than that. Together with you we will find the solution that
best fits with your specific situation. "

Underneath that passage, you'll see contact information for two SGS's
offices, one in Houston, one in Miami.

If this isn't a feasible option for you, I'll step aside and let
another researcher give this a go.

Hello again billeh23-ga:

I'm sorry I haven't heard back from you. Based on your response dated
October 5th, I believe I'm basically on the right track. Since I'd
already invested a considerable amount of time in this project -- and
since there didn't seem to be any other takers! -- I decided to go
back to the drawing board and give this project another try.

I endeavored to find a program that meets all your needs: web-based
technology AND interface AND scalable AND " information sharing " AND
multiple sites AND multiple industries AND job site security.

I'm not sure that there is a program that fully matches IDVIEWS'
capabilities, but these seem to be feasible alternatives.

Regarding job entrance security, I can't find anything in the
following programs about things like smart cards. So, you might have
to supplement one of these programs with a biometrics smart card
and/or fingerprint program, such as Precise 100 MC:

http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?edc=542827
(This is compatible with the aforementioned Saflink:
http://www.saflink.com/physical/)

When you contact these companies for more information, they should be
able to advise you on which smart card or fingerprint recognition
program is most compatible with their systems.

Besides monitoring transportation and shipping: "Job-related alerts."

Example: "A government authority monitors the location and activity of
mobile workers who service sewerage infrastructure. When an urgent job
arises, the most appropriate workers for the task are automatically
suggested, based on their location, availability, vehicle type and
equipment. Mobile workers use always-connected PDAs to indicate their
status to the office at all times ? whether 'available' or 'busy'.
They can also notify the office when they are about to enter a
sewerage drain by selecting a button on their PDA. They are required
to reset the button when exiting the drain, and if this is not done
within a specified time period, alerts are raised at the head office.
This allows immediate assistance to be sent in case the worker is
suffering from sulfur dioxide inhalation."
