How can I identify some crystal stemware I just inherited from my mother? I would like to find a source to help me ID the manufacuter and the pattern. The pattern was probably made during the early 1940's or late '30's. |

Hi, we need to see anything that you can show us. Here is how: "You can't send us a picture, but you can post one to a website that we can see. If you don't have your own website, then register and upload your image at one of the following free sites, and then post the URL of the image here." (Knowledge seeker-ga, thanks) <http://www.villagephotos.com> (limit 60,000 bytes per image) <http://www.deviantart.com> <http://www.usa-ezweb.com/ezfree> <http://www.imagemagician.com> (2 week free trial period) IF you have any idea where your mother bought the crystal or what country it could have come from, that would, of course, be a help. There are also sites like these that could help you identify your stemware: http://www.silverqueen.com/Crystal_store/Crystal.ASP http://www.replacements.com/crystal/manu/a.htm and others found with a search for: crystal stemware. |

I'm a real amateur at this, but I think I did it right -- the URL is http://img.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder id=1477325. The crystal was a wedding gift to my mother in 1943. It would almost certainly been purchased at a department store in Louisville, Ky. I have water glasses, wine glasses, sherbets and cordials. (In mother's day I think they would have been called water glasses, iced tea glasses, sherbets and wine glasses respectively.) Thanks so much for your help and interest with this. Who knew I would ever upload pictures to the web, nevermind find out more about this pattern! |

Well, I may have screwed up the URL. I have 2 and don't know which makes it work: http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-10/1087970/ OR http://villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder id=1477325 Thanks for your patience with me. Cecilia Boone |

Cecilia, You did it! Just a little problem of a missing _ Try this, folks: http://villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1477325 I assume that the different sized glasses are all very similar to this one. The silverqueen site seems of little use, but the replacement site is a bit overwhelming. Each letter brings up a list of manufactures, many of which have their own list of patterns. I won't begin to search through them. Maybe a little speculation about the additional details is useful. In 1943, sources for European glassware probably would have been exhausted, either the stock with the company in Kentucky or that of its US wholesaler. I suggest this on the bases taht neither would probably have had more than one year's anticipated supply at the start of WW II, and a rather neutral style like this would have been sold out by 1943. If so, we are looking for a US manufacturer, a much broader field than I anticipated. I hope someone with have an eye for the glasses and can help you further, Myoarin |

Many thanks for all the help I'm receiving. I've emailed pictures to replacements.com research AND have ordered a book about id'ing crystal stemware. I have determined that it is American made, almost certainly by Libbey/Rock Sharpe. Unfortunately, there are a bazillion combinations of their glasses, stems and bases. Please keep up the research - I need all the help I can get! |
