It is very doubtful that the NFL's 32 teams have any players on
rosters limited to 54 players, younger than 21 or 22 years of age (DOB
1983 or 1984). Most teams have a few players born in 1983, age 22.
Several factors work against a player younger than 21 or 22:
-university teams are overwhelmingly the feeder system to the NFL.
-the "suvival of the fittest" nature of the NFL means that scouts and
coaches seldom have interest in players from jr. college programs that
lack competetiveness.
-the NFL Players Association agreement with the NFL discourages
players moving to pro football too fast, as with high school players
jumping to the NBA. MLB has players aged 19-20 commonly out of the
minor leagues.
Even talented NBA prospects out of h.s. take 3-5 yrs. to mature into
dominant players. The average career of an NFL player is 3.7 yrs.
before the physical toll ends his career. Ohio State freshman Maurice
Clarett tried to jump to the NFL after one season of college football.
He was physically immature and lacking basic pro skills.

"Lorin Mayers, who turned 20 on June 6 2005, became the youngest
player ever to see action in an NFL Europe League game when he played
for the Berlin Thunder against the Amsterdam Admirals on April 30 at
the age of 19." NFL Europe is a developmental league of much lower
intensity than the NFL. He did not make an NFL roster. |
