Question ID: 576839
I am looking for a place to buy old style fire doors. These are
typically a wood core door covered with sheets of tin.

You can see a picture of exactly what I am looking for here...

I need a total of 5 sets of double doors. New or used.

I am not looking for links to places that *might* have these, or
places that sometimes carry stuff like this - I am looking for a place
that actually has them and I can buy them.

I am not looking for newer style Kalaine doors that are made from a
single piece of metal applied to a metal door - I specifically am
looking for doors with the multiplue sheets like the one in the
picture.

Thanks!

If you take this url:

http://www.blogography.com/photos4/TT_HeavyMetal4.jpg

and paste it to Google search bar you will get a link that will show
you the image of the door. (it worked for me at least)

FYI: What the customer is looking for is called a "horizontally hung,
tin-clad fire door". Becuase of increased fire rating standards and
modern insurance constraints they are rarely found on the commercial
market anymore - that is, "if" you can find one at all.

Good luck;

And from what Tutuzdad said, there is a possibility that installation
of the doors may not fulfill fire rating standards and insurance
definitions, although doors already in place may still be acceptable
under a "grandfather clause" that says that the new standard applies
for new and replacement installations.

You have to copy and paste the URL. Hot linking is blocked. It's
important that you see the door to understand what you're looking for.
I was visualizing something else. Good luck.

It seems you already know these are antiquated and not likey to be
accepted for new construction or remodeling where the local authority
inspects. If your purpose is more decorative, I believe I can help.
Being in the business of fire doors and (some) historic restoration, I
would custom build these doors. My guestimate is that you should
budget $1,000 ea. Are these hung with the horizontal gravity track
and fusible link hold-open, or some such old hardware application? Or
are they decorative and not functional? Or swinging? Etc.
