I lost my drivers license due to tickets and currently have no government issued identification, and no identification with a picture. Can I fly commercial airline within the 48 states? IE: Houston to LA and back. For example, are there any new specific laws that require me, as an American, to produce identification to travel on a commercial airliner? |

John Gilmore has been told at airports that there are laws requiring ID - but nobody has been able to say what they are. One opinion is that the airlines are lying and like to check ID as it helps them enforce the nontransferrable property of tickets they sell. Gilmore has been protesting this for a long time and there's some stuff on his court cases at http://www.toad.com/ . |

Simple Advice Get a Passport (ASAP). For countries that do not have formal ID cards this is by far the best form of ID. While you may object to having to do this, if you want a hassle free travelling life, this is an essential document to have. (whether you are flying internally or internationally) Regards DPRK007 |

Check with your state, but in New York, the DMV issues non-driver IDs. |
