Hi everyone, I'm looking for good ideas for a gift. My closest, oldest friend lives in Manhattan and i'd like to buy her some sort of "gift basket"??. She is a vegetarian and eats mostly organic, she is a health nut and her favorite pastime is walking the love of her life, Sabastian her dog. I though about books and stuff...but we differ DRAMATICALLY in views (political and otherwise) so even though she also loves to read and writes a lot....better not to go there. My budget is around $40-$50 including shipping? (but can go a bit higher is it just blows me away - )....it's not an occasion, just because....we've been through a lot together, and she's always been there for me...even as our lives vearded into very different directions (we are a prime example of how people from totally different backgrounds, religions, theologies can get along and have a thriving relationship and not sacrifice, or waterdown their beliefs). I was thinking organic food gift basket, but can't find anything i "just have to buy her". She's not into flowers, or cooking, but loves the theater...ad is a bit quirky Anyway...just want something unique.... Maybe 10 good ideas?? Let me know if you need clarification....Thank you!! |

She sounds just like my friend who has a love of her life named Sebastian the dog. My friend likes to knit - does your friend have hobbies like that? I've heard about a company that makes baskets for doggies and their humans. I can't find the references, but maybe someone knows what I'm talking about that can help. If she likes the theater, maybe you can find something that you can get her for some of the theaters in Manhattan. |

Why not give her a bag of bath ballistics, buttercream body butters, bath melts and bubble bars...? Lush kicks serious butt in the yummy-gifts catagory. Start at the bottom of the page and work your way up - the prices are listed high to low - starting at the bottom will let you fit your price range: http://usa.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/catzoom.html?mv_arg=Wrapped:expand=00006:upd=y mmmelly |

You might wait for a few more suggestions - come on folks - and then print this thread and send it to her, maybe with something from the Belle and Sebastian website: http://www.belleandsebastian.com/ Click on the text above the picture and the on "store". Good luck, Myoarin |

Nfpolaris -- Myoarin's music idea is a good one and I'll follow it up with one that jumps the gun (a little). But then the holidays are coming up. Each year KMTT, a progressive FM radio station in Seattle, puts out a CD with about 15 live performances done by popular artists in its studios. Proceeds go to The Wilderness Society. Their new release is out Oct. 25. It has cuts by first-tier artists like Tori Amos and the Finn Brothers (I've heard those two and they're fabulous), as well as up-and-coming people like Ben Lee or Mike Doughty -- http://www.kmtt.com/listingsEntry.asp?ID=373256&PT=mountainmusicinfo Two notes here: * CDs are always available on the website * they've been selling out for years. Last year in about 10 days. Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |

Hi it's just a thought, but if she's into organic stuff and likes animals then maybe she'd appreciate the following. I bought two goats for my cousin's wedding and she loved the idea that a family in Africa were (and will be ) benefiting from her big event. You can buy a goat, a brood of chickens or a sheep. http://www.farmfriends.org.uk/ "Buy a goat for a friend, and you'll give a poor farmer the chance to feed his family and build a livelihood. Bred to be good milk producers, a dairy cross-breed will provide the vital nutrition children need to grow up healthy and strong. Any excess can be sold for profit, helping a family build a future free of poverty. Pull the udder one and buy a goat now. Don't forget - if you're buying for a friend or relative, they'll receive their very own FARM FRIENDS miniature goat. And if you're buying for yourself, so will you! We'll also send you, or them, more detailed information about how the animal is helping a poor African farmer." |

I've given hard-to-figure-out friends autographed pictures of actors/actresses they like. If I can get them personalized, so much the better. |

How about a poster which depicts 20 of Hamilton's 65 waterfalls. She could come to Hamilton and take her dog for a walk along many of these waterfall trails. A web site that sells these posters is: http://www.hamrca.on.ca/parks/shop/ |

Natural bath products and skin care is always welcome. You might do a google search for bath products and go from there. One good site I've been on is http://www.akrongrove.com They even have gift certificates in case you are not sure about which scents she would like. |
