I've been a Rush fan since 1977, and I've seen them live twice. I suppose there could be a one-off performance somewhere in which they used two drummers, but when you've got Neil Peart, who needs two?! |

Ditto and, although it rings some sort of bell with me - was Neil Injured at one point and got someone in to help? I am probably thinking of another drummer. 20 minutes of searching Google didn't bring even a reference. |

According to Allmusic.com, when the band first formed in 1968, John Rutsey was the drummer. He was replaced by Neil Peart in 1974. Googlenut Allmusic.com Rush Biography http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:1srp281c051a~T1 ?Rush formed in Toronto, Ontario, in the autumn of 1968, and initially comprised guitarist Alex Lifeson (born Alexander Zivojinovich), vocalist/bassist Geddy Lee (born Gary Lee Weinrib), and drummer John Rutsey.? --- ?A self-titled LP followed in 1974, at which time Rutsey exited; he was replaced by drummer Neil Peart, who also assumed the role of the band's primary songwriter, composing the cerebral lyrics (influenced by works of science fiction and fantasy) that gradually became a hallmark of the group's aesthetic.? |
