Can you quote the exact contents of the dialog box?

It's the standard dailog box which requires entry of name and password
so as to access the internet. I do not have broadband. Thank you.

Please try this and let me know if it works:

Open Control Panel. Click Internet Options, click the Connections tab,
select Never dial a connection, and click OK.

Thanks Rainbow.
Control Panel / Internet Options / Connections / Never
Alas, that's how it has been all along. So there must be another
reason. It's a nuisance. Any other idea ?

That was the only thing I could think of. Hopefully another researcher
will be able to help you.

Best wishes,

I also had this problem when I had dialup. It happens because it is
trying to access the internet. This doesn't happen when you are
already connected to the internet does it?

It is trying to access the internet to look for updates. Please go
into your options or preferances for the programs and disable auto
updates for that program. This will prevent it from looking for
updates when it starts and when the program schedules it.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks Evillifrank and thanks to Neorayden.
I think that Neorayden has probably identified the source of the
problem, and I shall go and make changes and will report back.

Disabling of updates doesn't do the job I'm afraid. Any other ideas ?
Thanks. Fiosrach.

Hello Vyasa,
I use Internet Explorer. I also have Firefox but this problem has been
there from pre Firefox installation. The dialog box does not show when
I am on the internet. Thanks for any help.
Fiosrach.
