It seems to be called "Dig Dig Dig" and is part of the "Curious
Buddies" series (though the link to the video on this page is not
functional):

The identity of the performer might be someone mentioned here:

"Third Wave Productions produced the musical soundtrack for three new
half-hour programs featuring "The Curious Buddies." A Spiffy Pictures
Production, to be distributed by Nickelodeon, the music-packed
children's program features performaces by numerous recording artists
including Corky Siegel, Robbie Fulks, Poi Dog Pondering, Nickolas
Tremulis, Cathy Richardson, Dolly Varden, Ron Hawking, and Christina
Sanchez. Lyrics by Spiffy's Todd Hannert, and arrangements by Third
Wave's Terry Fryer, with final soundtrack mix at Thirdwave Studios."

Perhaps another researcher can pin down the artist and availability.

The song is by Chicago rocker Cathy Richardson, lyrics and music by
Todd Hannert. It's called "My Excavator" and it's on the dvd Baby Nick
Jr Curious Buddies "Let's Build" It is a great song! I don't think
it's on any cd.
