Dear 211563,

It is true that the IRS may pay a reward to anyone who provides
information that leads to the detection and punishment of anyone who
violates the internal revenue laws. However, not every informant who
applies for a reward will receive one.

This IRS information leaflet describes in detail under what
circumstances you can claim a reward for providing information and how
to do it (PDF file for Acrobat Reader):
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p733.pdf

In case you are going to claim a reward, this is the necessary Form
211 "Application for Reward for Original Information", as mentioned in
the instructions (PDF file for Acrobat Reader):
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f211sp.pdf

You may also want to have a look at this information by the IRS,
"Where Do You Report Suspected Tax Fraud Activity?":

This article from the Christian Science Monitor, "A reward (maybe) for
ratting on a tax cheat", may also be interesting for you:

Hope this helps!

A small correction: I accidentally provided a link to the Spanish
version of Form 211. Here is the correct link for the English version:
