I have taken a lot of mood-altering substances over the years, and it is my opinion that no pill known to man meets your requirements. A chemical substance cannot be guaranteed to give you an "instant good mood." Even powerful narcotic euphoriants don't necessarily provide a good mood. There are some mighty unhappy heroin addicts out there who can testify to that. It is my belief that a truly good mood comes not from fiddling with one's neurochemistry, but from the spiritual well-being of a strong, healthy soul. And that does not come in a bottle. |

Nothing works instantly, it takes a minimum of 25-35 minutes to hit the blood stream. I used to take Pemoline, a wonderful drug for regulating sleep in those with circadian rhythm disorders, also an effective mood elevator, took EXACTLY 2 hours to hit my spinal fluid before it worked it's magic. You are looking for "inner peace," and that does not come in pill form. A few months, or years, of psychotherapy could help, resulting in awakening each morning in a good mood, --ready, willing and able to face the challenges of a new day. If there were such a pill, all but the most enlightened souls would want it, and it would be VERY expensive. I will continue to monitor this thread though, in the hope someone will post something I am unaware of... ~~Cynthia |

I used to smoke a little crack now and then, and it made me feel great INSTANTLY... but the next morning, I would feel so down for so long it wasn't worth it. Sure, you can temporarily boost your mood or energy with any number of chemicals- but there is always a rebound effect on the way back to your natural state. Listen to the advice others here have given on improving your mood over the long term. |

This may sound overly simple, but I think caffeine may be the nonprescription substance that most closely meets your requirements. It's readily available in pill form, if you aren't fond of coffee. |

Hit the road, have a moderate jog of atleast half an hour. The endorphins released in your blood will give you instant mood elevation.Guranteed to work every time, does not need prescription, doen not induce tolerance, will occasionally lead to dependance, but then it is fine since doing it thrice a week will give you a good workout as well. I have been doing it for many years. Pills stop giving you the desired results after a while because of chemical tolerance which develops. |
