How did the country of Chile get its name?

There are a number of different theories about how Chile got its name.

According to Abate Molina, the name Chile came from the Mapuche Indian
word trih or chi, a bird with yellow spots on its wings.

?The Quechua or Mapuche Indian word "chili/chilli" or "where the land
ends/where the land runs out/limit of the world" also provides a
possible derivation.

Another possible meaning originates with a native word tchili, meaning
"snow" or cold
