Which of the approximately 562 federally recognized American Indian
Tribes, have seperate corporations established through which they do
business. Examples of corporations that would qualify would be tribes
that have government certified "8A corporations" and "economic
developement corporations". Tribes that only do busines through a
business committee would not qualify.

I can identify about 5,000 businesses that are Native-American Owned
and are involved in federal contracts in some fashion. Most of these
are rather small...about 1,000 of them have 20 or more employees.

Only about 30 of these have the term "tribe", "tribal", etc. in their
description, and of these, only a few state unambiguously that they
are tribal-owned.

Here's some examples:

==========

ACKCO, INC
PHOENIX, AZ

Native American owned

Professional services include training for staff of Tribal programs in
program planning and management; support services for conferences and
meetings, and hearings; and strategic communications for agencies
working with Tribes and Indian organizations.

=====

PRINCE OF WALES TRIBAL ENTERPRISE CONSORTIUM LLC
SEATTLE, WA

Native American owned

Is a tribal-owned enterprise providing Information Technology,
Environmental, Engineering and Laboratory Testing Services and
Language Services to the Federal, state, local and tribal governments,
Native corporations and the private sector nationwide.

The information that you have found actually seems to compound my lack
of information by hiding it in 5,000 locations....chuckle. I was in
the process of calling all the tribes when I thought of using Google
Answers. Calling the tribes is only about 360 calls (all Alaskan
Native Tribes are reprecented by regional corporations). I only
needed to know which tribes had set up a corporation. At this time i
didn't need to know particulars of the corporations themselves.
Tribes often do business only thru a business committee, and others
set up a seperate corporation...which may or may not do business
involving federal contracts. However, most tribes probably do set up
a corporation with the intention of federal contracts.
