Question ID: 579214
I'd like to do a criminal background check on myself. How
do all these web services work (i.e., is it like credit reports and
there are 3 major databases to search), how extensive are they, and
how do I tell if they are reputable (i.e, how do I know they are not
mining/selling my social and birth date)? Is there a consumer report
on this service industry?

Howdy jaqkey-ga,

If you want to do a criminal background check on yourself, there is a way
to do just that without going through one of the web based services that
offer such a function. If that would interest you, it would help to know
the state you currently reside within, and about how long you have lived
in that state. Thanks!

I live in Washington State, but I'm looking for a service that does a
nationwide search. I assume there services that do a *comprehensive*
nationwide search. Because I do not know how these services work, I
want to be certain that a search at all of the main databases for this
kind of information. (For example, when you do an online credit check
you can search all three of the big databases. Are there similarly
dominant databases for background checks? How can you know which of
these databases is being searched by a background check?)
