Hi,
I would like to assemble a target investor list for a media-focused
venture capital firm. I would like to receive 50 names in each of
the following 9 categories (450 altogether):
1) Investment Bankers 2) Commercial Bankers 3) Accountants 4) Lawyers
5) CEO?s of major media companies 6) COO?s of major media companies 7)
SVP/VP?s of marketing of major media companies 8) Major analysts
covering media and entertainment 9) The Managing Directors & General
Partners of later stage private equity media funds
All people identified must work in a
media/communications/entertainment related company. We want the
following information on each person:
1) Name 2) Company 3) Position 4) Contact info (optional)
I think that it will be easiest if this information is presented in an
XL spreadsheet. Just to make sure that we are heading in the right
direction, please find 10 people in each category ? and we can course
correct if necessary. We are looking for good investor candidates who
are accomplished but not too high profile. Below are some people we
think would be a good fit:
Dick Beahrs ? Founder (retired) ? Court TV
Nick Nicholas ? Former CEO ? Timer Warner
Frank Biandi ? Former CEO - Viacom
Toby Coppel ? SVP Corporate Development - Yahoo
Jeff Cunningham ? Former Publisher - Forbes
Cathy Black ? President - Hearst
Wenda Millard - VP Marketing - Yahoo
Nancy Peretsman ? Partner ? Allen & Co.
Finally, please let us know the search terms that you use so that we
can add to this list in the future.
Thanks. |

It is impossible for us to post in XL.
Also, 450 names may not be at all feasible for a researcher -- that
would take a week!
Would you be satisfied with fewer names?
Btw, we researchers always include our search strategies for
customers' future reference.

Hi,
I would be willing to accept a list of 250 people then. The amount of
info on each person is minimal -- name, position, firm and possibly
contact info... so I would think this is a reasonable price - aprox
$1/name. Also, I have seen other Google answers where a list is
uploaded to a 3rd party site. Would this be a possible way of getting
the list in xl format?
Thanks

Just as an FYI to dpgsom-ga, and to nancylynn-ga...
Yes, Excel files can be loaded to a third-party site, and linked to in
an answer, so this should be do-able.
As to the rest of your requirements, though...it still seems a very
large undertaking, even at the generous fee being offered.
Best of luck...

Hi,
Thanks for the clarification on uploading Xl. The furthest I could
lower this to would be 200 names for $200. Please let me know if there
are any takers.
Thanks,
David

Thanks for the reminder about XL, Paf; I'd completely forgotten.
Hi again dpgsom-ga. You may still find a "taker" here, but 200 names
is still very tough.
For example, with this project:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=321088
it took me about a week (as I recall, about 30 hours) to come up with
l00 names and correlating contact information.
Researchers receive 75% of the fee, so it doesn't actually work out to
$1 per name for 200 names.
100 names may be the absolute maximum for a Google Answers Researcher.
I'm sure you'll hear from some of my other colleagues, and I do hope
you can work out a compromise to make this project feasible.
Best,

Nancy,
THanks for the input. In that case, I don't need the contact info.
Just name, company and position.
Thanks,
David

dpgsom-ga,
I had a thought! Deep in my bookmark lists, I remembered a site with
a very impressive contacts list of the sorts of professionals you seem
to be looking for.
For instance, here's just a small segment of a list of
financial/investment professionals who are listed at the site, with
affiliation and email info:
http://esnips.com/foldermember/25e31bb9-ea29-4ae3-af9c-fd41eb31ed71/?source=ws&v=605433
[click on the link that says: Contact List.htm ]
I cannot put these names into an Excel file. But I can certainly
create a few links like the one above to list several hundred
contacts.
They probably would not be neatly divided into the 9 categories you
listed, as not all professionals use exactly the same titles.
However, this is a high-powered list, and may well meet your needs.
Let me know what you think,

I'm going to pass on this project, thank you. Coming up with 200 leads
is just too overwhelming!
I think pafalafa-ga's suggestion is great! I'd definitely go for that.
Good luck,

David,
If the link I posted earlier gives you any trouble, please use this link instead:
http://home.ripway.com/2005-3/279856/contactlist.jpg
The more I look at the caliber of the contacts here, the better I
think it meets your needs.
If you can find the time, please let me know your thoughts on this,
prior to my posting a formal answer to your question.
Thanks,

One more thing.
The list I posted is obviously very international in character.
However, it can very easily be restricted to the US, if that is your preference.
