**What book publishers specialize or at least publish a large number of
quotable books?**
Little Brown and The Oxford University Press are the most prolific
(and reliable/trustworthy) sources of quotation books.

**What are the most popular type of quotable books? (ex. quotables by
sport figures)**
1. http://classiclit.about.com/od/referenceit/tp/aatp_litquote.htm
This is a link to the About.com Classic Literature page, specifically
to the section regarding quotation books. It lists the top 5 quotation
books, as chosen by the author. I would like to add that while these
are great quotation books, one classic is not on the list. Bartlett's
Familiar Quotations (published by Little Brown) is a standard among
historical/literary quotation books.
2. Motivational quotes and literary quotes seem to be the most
popular, with inspirational quotes being popular, as well. The average
quote-seekers are university students writing papers and people
preparing to make speeches.
3. Quotes for kids are also popular sellers. They are sometimes
inspirational in subject matter, but more often funny. On Amazon.com
(searching: kids quotes), there were 133 matches in the Books
category.

On average, are quotable books good sellers?
1. On Amazon.com (searching: quotes), there are 1,756 items in the
Books category. For the sake of comparison, on Amazon.com (searching:
joke), there are 4,287 joke books and (searching: poetry) there are
37,324 books of poetry. I make these comparisons because these are the
types of books that quotation books would generally be competeing
with.
2. The 17th edition of Bartlett's Familiar Quotations was released in
2002. It stayed in the Top 150 Best-Selling Books database (USA TODAY)
for 3 weeks, peaking at #85. Considering the number of books published
weekly, #85 is nothing to be scoffed at for a quotation book. This is
not the latest thriller or a political expose', but a book that was
first published at the turn of the century.

3. Barnes and Noble (http://www.barnesandnoble.com or in-store) have
7,141 titles (searching: quotations). The search results can be
ordered by best-selling and provide a comprehensive list that should
be of some help to you. You can see what kind of quotation books sell
the best (inspirational) and where your target audience is on the
spectrum.

How are quotable books marketed?
1. You can go to print.google.com/publisher, for free book marketing.
2. Most quotation books are found in the reference section of book
stores and are not often advertised. They are generally for a specific
audience. The best way to market your book is to tailor it's cover,
layout, and design (including indexes, etc.) to be the most useful to
the likely audience. Be sure that the title or subtitle clearly
indicates the kind of quotes contained. Otherwise, the buyer may scan
over it in search of something specific.
3. Children's quote books often include quotes from sports figures,
television personalities, or inspirational sources. They should be
designed with this audience in mind and have a cover that catches the
eye. The best way to do this would be to visit a bookstore and quickly
glance at the kids quote books. Which ones caught your eye and which
ones didn't? Why? This would be a personal choice on your part.
