Hello, and thanks for your question.
A quick search for the Augustinian order in United States reveals that
they are divided into three provinces: Eastern, Midwest, and Western.
Since you are asking about Florida, the Eastern (and oldest) province
is where we need to look. Their home page is at:
http://www.augustinian.org/
Examining the directory of their province, I was able to confirm that
John Gallagher does, indeed, exist, and that he is now at Villanova
University in Villanova, PA. His contact info is:
St. Thomas Monastery
Villanova University
800 Lancaster Ave.
Villanova, PA 19085-1687
610.519.7500
http://www.villanova.edu/
Disappointingly, that same directory indicates that there does not
seem to be an Augustinian parish or church exactly in Hollywood,
Florida. However, there is one in nearby Dania Beach, just north of
Hollywood (about 5 miles). Here is the info for that church:
RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD
441 N.E. 2nd Street
Dania Beach, FL 33004-4800
House 954.923.6787
Parish 954.923.2806
Fax 954.923.1018
Here is a link to Mapquest showing the location of this church,
relative to Hollywood:

I have contacted the archivist for the Eastern province to see if
there ever was once a church right in Hollywood, and will amend this
answer when I get a response.
I hope this answers your question!

Just to clarify my previous answer, according to the archivist, there
is no church or parish in Hollywood proper. The Dania parish, just
north of there, has been around since 1961, and a quick call to that
parish confirms that they are the only one in the area.

But you never said if he was once in that parish. That is the
important question here.

Hello gabba-ga,
I am sorry if I misunderstood your question. It certainly sounded
like you knew of the church (and the fact that a specific priest
served there), but did not know the name. Since there are only a
handful of Augustinian churches in all of Florida, I am quite sure
this is the one.
As to whether or not a specific, private, person worked there,
unfortunately under the Terms of Service for Google Answers, that is a
personal detail that I cannot answer for you. I have given you the
contact information for that church as well as the general contact
info for the priest. The last step, I am sorry to say, you will have
to take yourself.
For your convenience here is the specific link on the Eastern
Augustinian province web site for their directory:
http://www.augustinian.org/dirpublic.htm
Note, in particular, that there are *two* individuals with the surname
"Gallagher", both of which are now at Villanova.
Once again, I am sorry if there was a misunderstanding. I have tried
to give you as much detail as possible (or allowed), and hopefully
empowered you to fill in the missing link.

Hello Gail,
I have asked for guidance from the Google team as to whether or not
this question is within the rules, and they said that it is, so I will
go on to get more details for you.
I can say the following, so far. First, according to the archivist,
John Gallagher was never in Dania, but it is entirely possible he is
mistaken. Second, Fr. Gallagher has been in the hospital at Villanova
(which is likely why he has not responded to email, robertskelton-ga).
I did get a phone number, so I will try to call him directly.
Is there some justification I can give him for why I am asking?

Thank you for trying to get my answer for me. I do need to know the
name of the parish he served in Florida. I believe his whole name is
John J. Gallagher. Hope this helps me get my answer

Hello again Gail,
Well, I have still not heard back from Fr. Gallagher himself, but I
have talked to the parish in Dania. The current pastor there, who is
familiar with the history of that parish, says that Fr. Gallagher was
never in the Dania/Hollywood during the time you mentioned, or any
other time.
I sincerely hope this helps answer your question.

Hello Gail,
I am sorry you feel the question has not been answered fully, so I am
attempting to get further confirmation for you. But here is where it
stands:
1) There is no parish in Hollywood, proper, but there is one in
very-nearby Dania. It has been around since 1961.
2) According to two people at Dania, one of whom is the pastor, John
J. Gallagher never served at Dania.
3) According to the archivist at the Eastern Province of the
Augustinian order, John J. Gallagher never served in Florida.
So I think that your original question, clarified by your statement
"was he a priest at that parish in Dania" seems to be fulfilled.
Now, to clarify things further, there are 5 parishes in Florida (from
the directory link I posted in my answer), one of which was founded in
1990 and so is out of your time box. Calls to the remaining three
confirm that John J. Gallagher was never at either of them.
As final confirmation of what seems to be the general conclusion from
the available information, that he was never a priest in Florida, I
have contacted Villanova University for Fr. Gallagher's resume, and
should hear back today on that.
I genuinely hope that this satifies your request. It may not be the
answer you were looking for, because it sounds like you felt he was,
in fact, there. But all the available information seems to indicate
to the contrary. I will post the results of the resume query when I
get it.

Gail,
Further to my last clarification, I have these final comments since it
appears we are at a roadblock.
From Villanova, I have yet to hear from Fr. Gallagher himself although
it was now many weeks since I left the message. I doubt he will
respond. Also, from the archivist there, I was not able to find out
anything new since he is not on staff and therefore would not have a
CV on file.
That leaves the archivist for the Eastern parish, who can be reached
at archives@augustinian.org, a Fr. John Sheridan. Over a week ago I
asked him for detailed information regarding Fr. Gallagher's career
after New York. While my more vague enquiries were answered promptly
(and again, he did not think Fr. Gallagher went to Florida), this very
specific one has been ignored. He may be on vacation, but I suspect
that if you are pursuing a legal issue, then I am being ignored.
I think that that is all I can do for you, but if this is a legal
matter, then I also think you have enough clues to put "the process"
to work to get your answers.
Good luck.
