I have been offered a job as a sales representative for a start up
furniture company. This company is a Chinese furntiure manufacturer
and supposedly has had success in China and Europe. The name of the
company is Sunny Century. I have been in sales before but know
nothing of furniture industry sales. I will be working for the first
time in the company's showroom at the High Point Furniture Market. I
would like to know as much as possible about Sunny Century in China.
I would also like to know about a career as a manufacturer's sales rep
specifically in the furniture industry. Is there extensive travel?
Do retailers and wholesalers do most of their purchases at the
bi-annual markets or do they expect their sales reps to visit them
throughout the year?

Also, how can I find out if the company has the ability to actually
pay me. All I have is a website, an address in California, two
contact names and telephone numbers. I also have the contact info for
the office in China.

I would also like someone to help me with tips on how to sell at
market. Do they just come and browse the showrooms like consumer
shoppers? Do they buy one item or several to stock in their stores?
I am clueless but quick to learn and excited.

HI,
Are you already in the High Point area? I expect that you have
already seen all the websites with Sunny Century (including craigslist
advertising for jobs in High Point).
If you go to the complex, you can get your own impression by watching
and talking to people, buyers and salespersons, also in Sunny
Centuries store. Even if you have already signed a contract, you can
act as though you are still just considering the job and ask a
salesperson about his job. You might also ask about training and
information on the company and how long it has been at High Point.
Customers will have similar questions about a Chinese company's
ability to deliver (similar to yours about whether it can pay you).
You also might get an impression of customer interest for the
products. If there is not much, ... hmm, well? High Point seems like
a place where one could get an idea of a supplier's market
penetration.

This is not an "answer" to your question, and certainly no answer to
some parts of it.
Good luck, Myoarin
