Please can someone with a understanding of employment in the bioscience
industry look at a couple of CVs I have prepared. I am currently in
the final year of my Ph.D. at Liverpool University and I want to break
into the industrial sector (especially with companies in the North
West of England). I am considering roles in laboratory positions as
well as those which are more managerial. I would like someone to
correct and challenge my CV, and in addition advise me on application
and interview technique so I can sell my myself as effectively as
possible. |

Hello vega999-ga,
Please clarify what you're looking for. Do you want a researcher to
review your CV? (In that case you will have to post a link for it or
post it here.) OR, are you looking for a resume writer/editor that you
can hire to do the review you've described? Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for your responses, below is a link to my two main draft CVs
that I will be using.
http://uk.briefcase.yahoo.com/simonvega6969
After you have navigated to this link you will see a folder called My
Documents, on opening this document you will have access to my
management position CV and my draft External Academic (or more
technical work related CV).
I want someone with experience in industry, ideally someone who has
worked in the life science industry and who has interviewed candidates
for positions, either technical or managerial (ideally graduate
positions). I also want them to scrutinize my CV, suggest improvements
and to give me some overall guidance as to what they feel an employer
is looking for. If more information is required, then please email me
(simonvega40@hotmail.com) and I will discuss the matter further.
But I will consider anyone with experience relevant to my request, or
with similar professional experience, so please let me know your
backgrounds.
Thanks again.
Simon.

Hello again vega999-ga,
When I follow the links you gave I get the message: "This folder is
currently empty."
This is just as well since it's not a good idea to post your personal
information here. Your potential employer might run across it too. I
think there are other ways of getting the help you need.
Option 1)
Change this question to ask Google Answers researchers to find you an
editor or resume writer who can work with you on getting your
CV/resume in perfect shape. Since you are likely to have to keep
revising your CV for years to come, it would be best to learn how to
do this for yourself. So, here are some alternative approaches to
making sure your CV is working for you.
Option 2)
Ask Google Answers researchers to find you sample resumes and/or job
descriptions for the two types of positions you're interested in,
i.e., laboratory and management. This should be doable if you give us
the list of "companies in the North West of England" that you have in
mind.
Option 3)
Ask Google Answers researchers on developing your job search strategy,
including how to make sure your CV and cover letters are working for
you, how to network for job leads and how to improve your interviewing
skills.
I have some additional questions regardless which option you choose.
What is your Ph.D. in? What areas of the "industrial sector" are you
hoping to break into? Have you checked with your school's career
center for what services they offer to those about to graduate? Is
this your school?

I look forward to working with you on launching your job search.
