My daughter wants to take applesauce to school for a snack. The theme
this week is pumpkin. Can I just take some pumpkin pie stuff in a can
and mix it with the apple sauce, or does it need to be cooked, or will
it be disgusting? What proportions should I use?

I couldn't find any recipes, but I did find out something I didn't
know: you can buy pumpkin flavoring!

I bet a dash of this in some applesauce, plus some food coloring to
make it orange, would be very tasty:

Here is the recipe I found. Please Let me know if it was what you
were looking for.

Pumpkin Sauce ...
Delicious and easy to make!

Pumpkins find their place across the menu -- breakfast, lunch and
dinner and dessert -- whether its pancakes, muffins, seeds for
snacking, hearty soup, stuffed pumpkin or tasty pie. And now ...
introducing ... pumpkin sauce. This is the unknown cousin of apple
sauce -- a side dish that can go with any meal, delicious as a spread
on bread and, yes, even as an ice cream topping! Or add a little milk
and slurp it up like a hungry kitten. Here is a food for all times of
day, all times of year, and nourishing all parts of the body -- from
the eyes to the inner dark places. You decide. Here's the recipe --
should you wish to replicate this simple delight:

2 Cups of pumpkin puree (from a fresh baked pumpkin; that canned stuff
just doesn't hit the mark when it comes to flavor).
1/4 cup apple sauce or grated apple.
juice of half a lemon grated lemon rind of 1/2 a lemon
1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon (heaping)
1/4 cup of honey.
Mix it all together and what have you got? .... Pumpkin sauce!

Pumpkinly yours, George Levenson

That's an interesting recipe, but since it has eight times as much
pumpkin in it as applesauce, I wouldn't call it "pumpkin flavored
applesauce." It's more like "applesauce flavored pumpkin." ;-)

Pinkfreud, you are right - quite a lotto' pumpkin. I will probably
try just mixing half and half and see where it gets me.

1 can of prepared pumpkin for pumpkin pie.
Add plain applesauce until desired consistency. (I use about 1 cup)
Add in cinnamin and bit of nutmeg for that pumpkin pie flavor.

Really good alone or over pancakes.
