I have been trying to find the correct wording of this quote and who wrote it. It runs something like this: "There comes a time when all men of good conscience have to raise the black flag and slit a few throats". |

Hello. The quote is: "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." H.L. Mencken (1880-1956) is credited as the author of the quotation. The quote is very popular and is listed on numerous web pages. See the results of this Google search: ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&client=googlet&q=mencken+%22every+normal+man%22+throats&btnG=Google+Search For more information about Mencken, visit this H.L. Mencken web page: http://www.menckenhouse.org/about/about_hlm.htm search strategy: "black flag," throats I hope this helps. |
