I'm searching for the translated French lyrics of the song L-O-V-E,
popularized by Nat 'King' Cole with music by Bert Kaempfert and
original English lyrics by Milt Gabler. This is the well-known song
that begins "L - is for the way you look at me; O - is for the only
one I see..." Because of the hyphens in the name, the title of the
song seems to be noted in multiple ways, including "L-O-V-E",
"L.O.V.E.", and "Love". The best I've been able to find so far are
the original English lyrics
[www.lyricsfreak.com/n/nat-king-cole/98056.html] and a cryptic
reference to a French recording made in Canada
[www.collectionscanada.ca/discologue-bin/itemdisp/l=1/r=1/i=11169/d=0]
by singer Pierre Lalonde. I am pretty sure that after this song hit
the charts in the US it was translated and covered in a number of
other languages?including French?by various artists, but for the life
of me I can't find it. I'm setting the price at $25 because not only
do I want the answer, but I'll be extremely curious to see what your
search strategy is that turns it up!

Here's a tiny clue that might help. On a Canadian site, I learned that
the French version of the song may be called "Je ne repartirai pas,"
meaning "I won't leave again." It is not uncommon for the French and
English lyrics of a song to be quite different from one another.

"Je ne repartirai pas (Love) (Kaempfert; Gabler) Pierre Lalonde"

A non-poetic translation of four lines:

I know this question is expired, but I'm kind of interested in the
answer too. I hope people are still working on it. Here is what I
found by searching the BMI hyper-repetoire (available at
http://www.bmi.com/ in the bottom left corner of page)

JE NE REPARTIRAI PAS (Legal Title) BMI Work #760836
Songwriter/Composer Current Affiliation CAE/IPI #
DELLEME JEAN SACEM 7853091
GABLER MILT ASCAP 63595948
KAEMPFERT BERT GEMA 76253764
Publishers
SCREEN GEMS-EMI MUSIC INC BMI 36205509

The name Jean Delleme is different from the title listing in BMI for
L.O.V.E. Maybe this is the name of the French lyricist?

Hope this is helpful. Maybe someone who knows a bit more about how
music is indexed can do something with this info. Good luck!
