We were the victims of a hit and run with no injuries but minor physical
damage to our vehicle. We wrote down the lisence plate number of the
vehicle that caused the accident. It happened on an interstate highway
while on vacation and the local police department wouldn't help. How
do we find the owner of the vehicle?

Which state was the car licensed in?

The incident occurred in Issaquah, WA. on I-90. The tag was issued in
WA. Upon reporting it to my insurance company, they said they could
do nothing and that I should re-contact the police. The state and
local authorities said we waited too long even though it was reported
immediately. I then paid $35 to NetDetective.com who claimed I could
find the name of the person upon entering their tag number. That was
a hoax and I am now waiting for refund after having filled out 4 pages
of explanation of why I want my money back. A local deputy stated he
could obtain the name and address in 30 seconds but that it would
violate his oath of office to do so.

There are various agencies on-line where you can search for info like
this. Look up on google 'private detective' and you will find these.
For about $25 you can get lifetime access to all sorts of useful info
that can help you track down and investigate people and things.

I find it ratehr difficult to believe that the local police refused to
try to track down a hit-and-run when provided with a license plate
number. I expect they would refuse to so state in writing. I would
very much complain to the state's Attorney General formally.

However, your insurance company should be able to help in this
situation and will be very glad to find the miscreant. give them the
information with the police report and your claim.

what you need to do is contact the auto registration office. Give
them the license plate number that you have, sign a waiver that
basically says you are not a stalker etc. then for a fee of less than
five dollars they will give you a print out of the information you
need ! As long it is not in California......
