What type and weight of oil would be used in an submersible,
oil-filled electric motor (shaded-pole, 1/2 HP)?

I have a pump similar to what you describe and I assume that the oil
is dielectric oil.

Di-electric oils are used in such motors even though it is best
practice to seek the advice of the motor manufacturer.
