I recently read a research paper which said that "The National Cancer
Institute estimates that 24 percent of adults with cancer are parents
who have a child 18 years or younger." The source cited is as
follows: "National Cancer Institute: National Health Information
Surgery, Bethesda, MD, National Cancer Institute, Division of Cancer
Control and Population Sciences, Office of Cancer Survivorship, 1992."
THe Lance Armstrong site also sites the fact that "24 percent of
adults with cancer are parents who have a child 18 years or younger."

This is what I want to know:
Are there any updated figures? (Ideally, something like "Today, it is
esimated that X% of adults with cancer are parents who have a
child..."
I am writing a paper on parents with cancer, and I am trying to find a
reputable source (i.e., National Cancer Institute)-- but despite
looking on their site for about an hour, I can't find where the
original researcher found her number.
Help in finding the exact source or (even better) an updated number
and source would be greatly appreciated. If someone could post a link
to a page at NCI where the data is found, that would be great!!!! |
