Hi!!

I am working on your question and need to know if I am understanding you right:
What you need is to add a movie file (.mov) to a PowerPoint slide, so
when this specific slide is displayed, the movie is showed, don,t you?

Note that the movie is not embedded, the associated program will run
and the movie will be displayed in the program's window. If you want
the movie embedded in the slide you must convert it to wmv or mpeg
format, in this case let me know if you accept as an answer the
recommendation of a converter software and the instructions to insert
the file.

I know that .mov files (quicktime) will play on PC even if created on
Mac -- but they won't play in Power Point on a PC (I now convert to
AVI files as work around)

What I am seeking is a way for the .mov files to play on PC/powerpoint
w/o conversion?

I know the movie files (whatever format) need to live on machine
playing the power point ...

If you wnat to run a mov file, the only thing you can do is to add a
button that is hyperlinked to the file, and, according to settings,
when you press it or when you pose the mouse's cursor on it the
program defined to run it will start and show the movie in the
program's (usually QuickTime) window.
If you like the movie embedded in the slide (as an image or graph
usually be) you must convert it to a wmv or mpg format. I tried it on
my own PC and this is the way it works (mov file opened in different
window, wmv/mpg embedded).

Is it enough answer to you the instructions to how make the button?
