I have two hardware devices, both graphic cards. They require
different device drivers.

However the names of the driver files are the same for each. So when
the second hardware device is installed the wrong driver is used by
the first hardware device.

So how can I use different device driver for the second card which has
the same name.

Note the chipset of both graphics cards are the same, however due the
number of processors on each card a specific ATI driver must be used.
I am running Windows 2000.

What I don't understand if both cards are installed at the same
computer at the same time, that is both are running together, or for
whatever reason you need to replace one by the other and then go back
with the replace.

Could you give us the model of the graphic cards so we can do a more
accurate research for proper drivers or a specific solution for these
models'

Thank you,

Both cards are required to run together in a multimonitor system.

I was using a Matrox p650 and a Radoen 9250 so I had 4 outputs.
However as I need 2 more I bought an Appian Rushmore which has 4
outputs to replace the Matrox card.

The Appian contains 2 Radeon VE/7000 Chipset processors.

Appian provide their own driver which is actually a rebranded Radeon
7000 driver with modification for 4 outputs.

ATI's Radeon 9250 driver has the same name as the Appian rebranded
driver. In theory the universal Radeon driver suppied by ATI would
work with both cards, however as the Appian has a bizzare configuraion
(2 processors slit into 4 outputs) the driver is slightly different. I
belive the actual difference is to run the second 2 outputs.

I can use the ATI universal radeon driver to run 2 of the Appian
outputs, but not third and forth as the ATI driver is not the correct
one for a 4 output configuration.

Yes, I have tried renaiming the drivers. However this does not work
because the INF installation file creates the file names when it
copies the driver files to the winnt directory.
