Question ID: 581736
I have a Creative 24-bit 5.1 Live! sound card. I have installed Linux
(Unbuntu) and I am having problems installing a driver for the sound
card so that I can listen to my music on my surround sound speakers. I
have been to http://www.opensource.creative.com and have downloaded
EMU10K1, which is available from
http://opensource.creative.com/soundcard.html

I downloaded EMU10K1 and tried to follow the following instructions found on:
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Creative+Labs&card=Sound+Blaster+Live+5.1.&chip=emu10k1&module=emu10k1#Inst

Can someone please talk me through this installation specifically as I
am new to Linux!!! Screenshots would be ideal!

One thing to be aware of. On some of the older cards, in order to hear
sound from the CD you had to run an analog cable from the CD to the
sound card.
So if your sound card can play 'sounds' but cannot play CDs that may
be the problem.
(Or once you get it installed correctly and you still cannot play CDs then ...)

Be sure to try installing the ALSA files from Ubuntu's software
repository. Check Ubuntu's Wiki for more information.
