Hello kilboj!
Unfortunately, Kalmar Designs is no longer in business, and very
little is known about the company today.
A Google search on [ "Kalmar Designs" ] turned up only the following:
Kalmar Deadstock Chip and Dip
http://www.outofvogue.com/kalmar.html
Searching eBay turns up several Kalmar Designs items:
Kalmar Teakwood Roll-Up Letter Holder
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2046354771
Kalmar Designs Stainless Steel Seafood Set
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2134121920
Oval Teak Wood Salad Bowl Set Kalmar Designs
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2133885250
The last item bears a sticker noting that the item was made in
Thailand. Searching further on [ Kalmar Thailand ], I discovered
these:
Kalmar Thailand Teak Baguette Holder and Slicer
http://recyklotron.com/piclinks/kalmarbc.htm
Kalmar Denmark Teak Board
http://recyklotron.com/piclinks/kalmar%20board.htm
I spoke with Mike, owner of Out of Vogue, a vintage item shop in
Fullerton California:
Out Of Vogue
109 E. Commonwealth Ave.
Fullerton, CA 92832
(714) 879-6647
http://www.outofvogue.com
(His shop carries a teak and stainless Kalmar Designs chip and dip
set, noted above.)
Mike tells me that Kalmar items were made mostly in Italy in the
1960's, when Danish Modern style furniture and accessories were quite
popular. Kalmar items are now considered "one of a kind" items, and
are hard to find, as the company has been out of business for some
time.
Hope this helps!
