DR. REMBERT S. TRULUCK has a website: http://www.truluck.com and claims:
Doctor of Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary,
Louisville, KY, 1968. Southern Baptist Pastor from 1953 to 1973,
Professor of Religion at Baptist College of Charleston, SC, 1973-1981.

His interpretation of the Bible suggests that a Biblical admonition
for gay behavior is a misinterpretation. If he is right, then this
flies in the face of Christian conservatives at a time when gay rights
is a central piece of current social activism.

My question: I am unable to authenticate Dr. Truluck or know his
actual credentials and standing in the theological community. Can you
give me some reference or anything to help establish his credentials
and standing?

I offer this in an effort to inform about my changing interest in this
online theologian and author and preacher, whom I might add, I came
into this question having a high respect for and even imagined him as
a sort of Jesus like character from his extensive web site writings.

In this spirit I emailed Dr. Truluck and I share the resultant email conversation:

This is one answer to "How stupid can you get!"

<<TO DR. TRULUCK>>

Dr. Truluck, I am confused at your response. The intention was to get
support and confidence in your analysis and interpretation.

<<FROM DR. TRULUCK>>

It did not come across that way! My website speaks for itself. I do
not need anybody to try to prove my credentials! You are out of
order, and I have no further reply to you.

Dr. Truluck, I am a gay person trying to find my way. I'm sure in
retrospect that your unchristian response may seem inappropriate. Perhaps
you have completely misread this.

And God shuts off no person.

I used some of your arguments on a web page of mine; perhaps a read of this
page will change your opinion.

Yes, it does - I was curious about him in a positive way before. Now
I am more curious, but for a different reason. Note that I have
raised the price to $20. Really would like a better view of this man
and the authenticity of his theological interpretations of Bible
verses that are related to homosexuality. In today?s political
climate, I think this is something worth knowing more ? any
researchers out there I can challenge?

I have done quite a bit of reading on theological subjects, and I'd
never heard of Dr. Truluck until he latched onto this issue and turned
it into the focus of his ministry. He has gained some notice as an
author of self-help books, but, in my view, it would be a far reach to
call him a theologian.

TO: pinkfreud-ga - Are you implying that his stated credentials are suspect?

Not at all. But a doctorate from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
does not necessarily give a person "standing in the theological
community." I had assumed that you wanted to know whether Dr. Truluck
is a person who is widely respected as an expert in theology. As far
as I know, he isn't.

TO: pinkfreud-ga - "I had assumed that you wanted to know whether

theology." Thanks, that is the essence of my question, and I hope
some expert on this site can shed some light on this relative
question.

Thanks for posting your correspondence with Dr. Truluck. I must say
that his rudeness is rather shocking, in view of the fact that you
approached him in a courteous and respectful way. Quite frankly, it
looks to me as if this man may have become obsessed with notions of
his own importance.
