I have a relative who wants to give away an old mobile home that she
owns. She cannot find the title to it and has heard that unless she
transfers the title she could be held responsible if anything happens.
It's a very old trailer and could easily come loose from the hitch
while on the road, etc. She wants to give it away and has plenty of
people willing to come to pick it up, but she doesn't want to be sued
later! Please advise what the law would be in the state of Ohio.

In Ohio mobile homes and house trailers are transferred in the same
manner as motor vehicles. If you have lost the title you can apply for
a replacement title in the same way you would apply for the car title
replacement by contacting the Ohio bureau of motor vehicles, P.O. Box
16521, Columbus, Ohio 43216-6521.

In addition you may be able to obtain a duplicate title by contacting
the County Auditor, the County Treasurer, or Clerk of the Court in the
county in which you reside.

If you get a replacement you should be able to conduct the transfer
without any problem. Give them a call and let me know if these work as
viable options for you.

Good luck;

I think in Ohio if you've lost title you can go to a title bureau and
get a replacement copy of the title and then she will have the title
to sign over to someone.
