Built Excel worksheet for scheduling part time employees. Sheet has little room to maneuver lines & data. How can I drag & drop or cut & paste from one cell to another without losing formatting in source or original cell? Doug |

Hi Doug, Thanks for your question - this can actually be achieved with a relatively simple process as described below: 1. Select the range containing the formatted data that you would like to move. 2. Select Edit > Copy 3. Go to the location where you would like to move this range. 4. Select Edit > Paste - this will copy your original formatted data to the new location without affecting the original source range. 5. Reselect the original range and hit the 'Delete' key on your keyboard. This will remove the data from the selected range while keeping the format in tact. That's it - you're done! If any of this is unclear please do post a clarification and I will respond promptly. Cheers! answerguru-ga |

What are the stats? Are we talking about MSOffice for windows or Mac? Which year version? Between Excel 97 and Excel XP pro there are a number of changes in how the program works. |

Hi Doug, In addition to the answer above, if you also wanted to not change the formatting in the destination cell, try the following: >Select original cell >press CTRL-c for copy >right click on destination cell -select 'paste special' -select 'paste value' or 'paste formula' depending on your needs >select original cell >press 'Delete' This will keep the formatting of both the source and the destination cell. Now if MS would just come out with a 'cut special' feature... Good luck and enjoy. |
