Hi, we didn't pay NY City Tax the first years we came to the US and
lived in New York under H-1B visas. Apparently, many H-1B holders did
the same. The NY State Tax Department is now auditing us and asking
for the "specific purposes" and "fixed and limited time" of our
employment. I have heard from many H-1B holders that they got similar
audit inquiries. Does anybody know how the tax department is handling
these cases and what they expect to see to drop the case?
