How to recover a file that has been deleted from the C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp folder ? My OS is Windows XP. This file has been indexed by Google Desktop before it was deleted. So I can still access the cache version in html format but it doesn't suit my purpose. I need to get back the file in excel format with formulas and graphics. |

Here is the short answer: Get a free utility such as http://www.officerecovery.com/freeundelete/ and use it to recover the file. (found through Google by searching on: accidentally deleted file recovery). Here is the longer answer: When Windows deletes a file, it doesn't actually erase the data, it simply flags that it is no longer in use and that if the hard-drive space is needed, that particular portion of the drive is available to re-writing. Because of this, if your hard-drive has already re-written over this sector, you may not be able to recover the file completely. There are still ways to retrieve information even after it has been written over, because a "shadow" of the data still exists as an electro-magnetic "impression". However, this is typically very expensive. So do not delay in recovering your file, and try to avoid saving new files (particularly large ones) to your hard drive until after you have recovered it. Good luck! |

Hi, I have just recovered my complete hard drive with 100000s of files. I have tried ALOT of programs but found these two to be the best. I would recommend you to test their demo and see if they show the file(s) you want. Iolo Search and Recover http://www.iolo.com/sr/3/ Stellar Phoenix Windows (FAT & NTFS) http://www.stellarinfo.com/disk-recovery.htm#win Take care, Gravelay |
