We have a service that allows our customers to create a custom PDF
book and cover that they can download and print out. We would like to
find a company that would allow us to offer customers a way to get the
book printed and hard bound, and shipped directly to them. This is a
summary of what we are looking for:

1. Customer, via our web site, can submit the PDF they created and
have a custom book printed and mailed to the them.

2. Allow us to charge the customer for this all electronically.

3. We do not want to upload the PDF ourselves manually and enter the
ordering information, we want the customer to be able to do that from
our web site. In other words we want to be able to have the customer
click a button that does the ordering, submits the order and the PDF
they created and gives a cut of the income.

The closest site I have found that does this is CafePress.com. However
there system requires that we manaully upload every PDF a user creates
ourselves. The book product then appears in our CafePress store, where
anyone can order it. The problem is this requires manaul intervention
on our part for every custom book a customer makes and it appears in a
store which we dont want to do. This would work if the book contents
where fixed and the cover not customizable, but since each customer
will be chosing the contents and entering information for there cover,
this won't work.

We need a site that would allow us to interface to some kind of
publishing system that accepts PDFs, customer names, and credit card
information from the customer yet still gives us the income minus the
printer/shipper's fees.

Thanks

Mitch

So you want to be the middleman in a push-button turnkey operation,
where all you do is sit back and watch the profits roll in? So do I!
Heh, all kidding aside, it could be quite tough to work out this kind
of arrangement with an existing publisher. You might want to have a
look at www.lulu.com, and perhaps contact them to see if they're
working on some kind of affiliate program (there's no mention of one
on their site, that I could find). While their customers can
currently print their own books very inexpensively, I could see how
they might be interested in a relationship with a 3rd party who could
drive traffic to their site. I can't speak for them, obviously, but
it'd be worth looking into.
