Could you give us more details about what do you need?
Are the computers connected? Which is the connection used?
Do you want to use CD-R or something similar?
Have you tried any method and had troubles with it?
etc,

Thank you

We want to transfer music files, originally purchased from I-tunes,
which are on our Ibook. Unfortunatley, the hard drive is broker, and
cannot be used to burn a CD. We are purchasing a new Windows-based
laptop, and want to transfer the music files.

Hi again!!

May there is a typo, is the Mac hard drive broken or the CD-Rom drive broken?
If the HD is broken and you cannot boot the computer, probably you will
be unable to transfer the files, but if it is only the CD-Rom drive
and you can connect the computers I think that I could help you.

Which connection capabilities have the machines (USP, Ethernet, Firewire, etc.)?

Hi!!

The easiest way to connect both computer is through the Ethernet cards
using a crossover cable. They are inexpensive (less than $10, and you
can find them from about $3).
Here is a link to a page that explain what a crossover cable is with
link to cable prices:
"Ethernet Crossover Cables Explained":
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/explain/about-ethernet-crossover.asp

For the required task I found an step by step guide, "Sharing files
between a Mac and a PC connected with a crossover cable":
http://images.apple.com/business/mac_pc/pdf/cable_guide_10.3_UK.pdf

But before start with the above document I suggest you to first read
the following documents:
"Mac OS X: Sharing your files with non-Apple computers":
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106660

"Mac OS X: About File Sharing":
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106461

"Mac OS X: Setting up Windows File Sharing":
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107083

"Mac OS X 10.1 or later: How to Connect to Windows File Sharing (SMB)":
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106471

I think that the above documentation will do the work but in the case
that you need more information please refer to the following pages:
"Sharing Macintosh Files with a PC":
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101170.asp

"Sharing PC Files With a Macintosh":
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101169.asp

Try also with the following keywords at the NetGear Search page: pc
os network or pc os configuration .
http://kbserver.netgear.com/main.asp

If you want to try with the Firewire ports I found a software that can
be usefull, FireNet. It is relatively inexpensive, you will need to
expend about $20 for 2 Firenet product keys Special (Choose this if
you want to connect 2 computers with Firenet):
http://www.unibrain.com/1394_products/1394_networking/firenet_pc.htm

More info here:
"FireWire Networking Software for Mac":
http://www.unibrain.com/1394_products/1394_networking/firenet_mac.htm

"The Many Faces of FireWire":
http://www.unibrain.com/reviews/peachpit/Peachpit%20Press%20%20Features%20The%20Many%20Faces%20of%20FireWire.htm

Before purchase this FireNet read carefully this page:
"Unibrain's Support - FAQ Networking":
http://www.unibrain.com/support/networking/networking.htm

Search strategy:
networking Mac OS X windows xp
crossover ethernet cable
firewire networking mac pc

I hope this helps you. Feel free to request for further assistance if
you need it using the clarification feature before rate my answer.

Sorry for the confusion. The CD burner is broken. USB and FIrewire
are both available, as would be Ethernet (with some difficulty)
