I'm interested in learning the most popular motorcycles, listed by
Make and Model, sold in the US during the last three years (2002,
2003, 2004 or 2003, 2004, 2005). Since this data would likely be
compiled using vehicle registrations, off-road motorcycles do not need
to be included (but nor do they need to be excluded).

The data should list, at minimum, the top twenty motorcycles (by make
and model) for each of the last three years sold in the USA.

The major factor is I need the data by make AND MODEL.

I have been working on your question and I located the following information:

- Motorcycle sales (units) by manufacturer in the U.S.  in  2003 and 2004

- The total number of new motorcycles sales (units) in the U.S. in 
2002, 2003 and 2004

- 2003 motorcycle market shares by manufacturer

- Top ten newly registered motorcycles by make and model in Australia
in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

- A motorcycle trade association 2004 market report that you may
purchase for 100 dollars. This report provides about 25 pages of
statistics and information on the U.S. motorcycle industry.

Would my findings be of your interest?

The data I need has to be by make and model, not just by manufacturer
and that data has to be from the USA (and not Australia).

The best place to find this information is through the Motorcylce
Industry Council, a group based in California that collects and
analyzes all of the data you are asking for. They publish yearly
reports that detail all of this information, and I think they can be
had fairly cheaply. Their website is www.mic.org
