In windows XP, right clicking the desktop (or inside any folder) will produce a context menu "new" which gives a list of file types to choose for creating a new file on the desktop (or inside the applicable folder). I know how to control what types are listed by either (1) editing the registry using book "Windows Annoyances" or (2) using the program "Tweak UI". My first question is how can one control the ORDER in which file type items are listed in the context menu? I have tried removing them all and adding them back one by one. I have looked in Google to see how to sort them and only find articles on sorting the Start Menu. What I want is to sort the items in the Context Menu "New". It seems that on my machine this menu is listed in random order, not in the order added and not in alphabetical order. My second question is how does Windows determine the ORDER? It seems to be random which is rather weird for a computer. I would like to be able to control the order but I would settle for an explanation of what windows is doing to create its random order and why it is impossible to change that. |
