I would like to download crossword puzzles in Across Lite format
(.puz) that a ten-year-old child would be able to solve.  They should
be free or inexpensive (no more than $1/puzzle).  I do not want Bible
puzzles.

First of all, the best way to download crosswords in Across Lite is by
eMule, I think. If you don't have it, you can download it from here:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/emule/eMule0.46c_Installer.exe
Once you got it, just go to Search and try to type "Crosswords" and ".puz".

If that's too hard or requires too much time for you, there are a lot
of webpages where you can find Crosswords completely free, directly
from the webpage, such as:

http://www.crossword-puzzles.co.uk/ (choose a link from Educational
crosswords to find crosswords for childs).

you can not use some software to do crosswords game. You can play the
crossword online.
