I'm running IE 6 SP 2 and for some reason I can no longer open more
than one IE window at a time. If I try to load a new one, by hitting
ctrl + N for instance, it closes the open window and opens a new one.
I suspect Dragon 8 might be involved, but not sure? |

Hi sethlb,
Something to try -
"Jeri, did you install Yahoo IM recently? I had your problem and found
it was related to Yahoo IM. Uninstall everything yahoo except
messenger. For some reason the guys over at yahoo think it's really
cool to only use one instance of IE at a time.
To uninstall everything yahoo, go to Start -> Settings -> Control
Panel -> add/remove programs
Then click on the all the yahoo ones like toolbar, extras, etc except messenger.
Then you should be OK.
Jeanne
This solved my problem - download Yahoo yesterday after install
shockwave player and problem started today.
Thanks for saving me much time Jeanne
Thank you veryyyyy much for this. I installed adobe acrobat 7.0 and
it instantly installed yahoo toolbar even though I said I didn't want
it.
That solved the problem of not being able of opening more than i ie window.

Hi!!
Try the following if the hummer advise does not work:
Go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Advanced --> Uncheck "Reuse
windows for launching shortcuts"
Sometimes, as hummer-ga told you, another program do this trick, Yahoo
Companion is a very common cause, others could be a popup blocker, a
toolbar, a firewall, an IE shell like Avant Browser, etc. With
programs like these Ctrl+click or Shift+click would allow a new IE
instance to open.
If you have installed one of the above programs try turning off the
feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps, uninstall the program
(especially uninstall Yahoo Companion).
Another cause could be Oleaut32.dll, if this file is damaged or it's
not registered correctly.
Go to Start --> Run --> type regsvr32 oleaut32 --> press Enter -->
Reboot and check what happened.
See also the following page to see if you can find the solution here:
"You cannot open a new Internet Explorer window or nothing occurs
after you click a link":

Let me know if something of this works in order to move this to the
answer box or if not to continue researching.
