I am looking where I can buy a testing kit for MSG - Monosodium
glutamate.  I want to test some of the Chinese restaurants that I eat
at that say they do not use MSG and I do not believe them.

question. I found a company called LIFE-WORK POTENTIAL that offers a
food additive test kit that comes in the form of several vials per
package (presumably so you can do a number of tests if necessary). One
of the ingredients the kit detects is MSG - Monosodium glutamate
prepared from natural or synthetic L-glutamic acid. This company may
have other tests available on the commercial market but this one seems
to suit your requirements nicely:
