Hi guys, We have recently acquired around 20 pc's it came pre-loaded with Windows XP Home and when we tried to share the resources in the network we couldn't do so. We couldn't view the shared documents, printers or even make them join a Red hat linux server. Then we gave a call to dell tech support, they supplied us the PC's, they couldn't help. They mentioned that XP Home we can have a max of five Pc's only on the network, if we have more the 5 Pc's then we have to buy XP Pro. The same was rethorated by Microsoft tech-support as well. I was watching a old repeat of G4 TV program "Screen savers", they mentioned a few changes in the register whereby we can make XP Home work similar to XP Pro. The steps were in their website, but when i logged the page was long gone.. So, i need the steps to be followed to edit my XP Home registry to make it fully functional to XP Pro. So, please advise the steps. Regards, Arun_P. | |

backup your registry, then do the following: go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/ProductOptions and delete the value of the key "ProductSuite". Then reboot and open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Lsa and change the value of the key "forceguest" to "0". |

Other method: 1. go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet00X/Control/ProductOptions - where ControlSet00X is the one with the highest number - and delete the key "ProductSuite" completely. 2. Instead of this key, create a new key named "Brand" of type "DWORD" and set it's value to "0". 3. Reboot the system. 4. After BIOS-screen, press F8 and choose "Last Known Good Configuration" (it can look a bit different - I don't surely remember - by the meaning is this). |
