1) Look up financial planners/advisors in the yellow pages 2) Post a detailed questions on here (I will gladly answer in the form of a comment for free if it falls within the realm of my knowledge and the more details you provide the more detailed my answer will be... and researchers often give great advice on the more difficult questions if you set a high enough price to make it worth their while. 3) If you're looking for retirement planning or debt elimination then you can receive a free financial plan from a Primerica representative. They will come to your home, get all the data they need then make you a good plan with fun charts/graphs while they teach you some things about personal finance. That is all free... they make their money if you decide to use any of their products. They offer great life insurance, over priced investments, and above average home refinances. |

I said "for a fee", not free. I know that "free" means they will try to sell me something. I'm looking for people who only sell advice...online if possible. |

I thought I gave 2 fee for service options in my comment... I threw in the free option because depending on the service you want, they give as good or better advice than the fee for service people. But here is a more taylored answer with the extra info you gave ("online if possible"): http://www.myfinancialadvice.com/Customer/Default.aspx?refer=ggfa You can chat with an advisor online. Then when they get sufficient information from you about your question, they will give you a price quote and you may choose to buy the advice or to leave. The site gives no informations suggesting how much the service actually costs, but I imagine it's way more then the fee you'd pay here at answers.google.com. If they quote you an absurd amount, I highly recommend that you post your question here rather than paying through the nose for the same information. |

I'd like to suggest that you go to a major brokerage firm, like Merrill, or Morgan Stanley. Set up a meeting with the manager and ask him to refer you to the broker in his office, with the best track record, and that's been there for at least five years. Meet with this broker and ask about having a financial plan done for you. These are usually less than $500, and provide an in-depth analysis of your situation. It will include all of your holdings, real estate, insurance, stocks, ret. plan, etc. It will also have specific recommendations as to balancing all of these things, that will help you to reach your individual goals. You will have no obligation to follow the plan. These computerized plans have been set up by the best minds in the industry. To have this amount of information prepared for you personally, in this way, is invaluable. |

Financial planners have traditionally been salespeople of high margin mutual funds and even higher margin insurance products, with the advice being free. The problem is there is a high incentive for them to sell you the product that gets them the highest commission rather than you the best product or plan. There has been a slow movement towards what you want -- charging for the advice. Many planners are reluctant to do that, because now they have to be professional like an accountant lawyer who gets paid only for useful services. However those that do fee based planning are probably the best -- they know they are giving good advice and trust you will return when you have a change in circumstances. You can check for individuals with good accreditation, like Certified Financial Planner, online at various traditional financial planning companies. What their personal website says will tell you lots, and you should find somebody good who will do fee based planning. |
