Dear pacmarrin1,

House Bill 1187, effective as of 24 April 2000, defined that physical
education is no longer mandatory by law in Georgia. The same year, the
Georgia State Board of Education decided that physical education is
mandatory only for grades K-5.

In Rule 160-4-2-.12, effective as of 19 July 2000, the Georgia State
Board of Education defines the following physical education
requirements:

- Each school containing any grade K-5 shall provide a minimum of 90
contact of instruction at each grade level K-5 in health and physical
education.

- Each school containing any grade 6-12 shall make available
instruction in health and physical education.

However, Rule 160-4-2-.47, effective as of 7 March 2002, renewed rule
that one unit of health and physical education is a mandatory
requirement for high school graduation. This applies to all students
enrolling in the 9th grade for the first time in the 2002/03 school
year and subsequent years.

Of these rules, no exemptions are specified.

Hope this answers your question!
Regards,
Scriptor
