I was 16 going on 17 when I was lured by 2 guys outside a college
telling me - sign up for a card and get a free shirt or candy, I said
I was only 16 , he said My son is 13 and he has one. So I signed up
for a credit card recevied it about 3 weeks later and offers for
credit cards kep coming in the mail...
My question is now my credit is shot, I am 22 yrs old and on the verge
of filing for bankruptcy, a levy was placed on my bank account from
Discover card colletion agency, they sadi they mailed me court order to
appear in civil court, I never received this. My questions are :
Is it possible for me to sue the credit card companies and/or
collection agencies for allowing a minor to enter a contractual
agreement and without parental permission? or what would it fall
under?
What kind of lawyer deals with this?
Isn't there a law or bill that is in effect that would allow me to
fight this? and how would I go about doing this?
Any other cases of minors now adults suing for the smae reasons?
Any other information is greatly appreciated.

You might want to check out this site:

As the article mentions, MOST credit card companies require applicants
to be 18 years of age, but not all.

As for legal implications, that would probably vary depending on what
state you live in. My hunch is, if it were not legal for the company
to extend credit to you, you probably wouldn't have gotten the card
approved.

Thats your own fault. At age 16 you should know better... I think its
great you got one. I also had one when I was 17. Its your own fault
you abused it to affect your credit rating. Don't say all you wanted
was the shirt because you could have very easily got the shirt and
card and cancelled it without using it. Thats like going to a bar
underage and then sueing them because they served you. Take
responsibility for your actions.

wow- ok dad!
First of all - it was illegal in the first place for them to issue the
card to me but thats how greedy "m-fers" are not caring if they ruin a
minor's credit, and this is what i thought was the case that I would
get denied but they approved me regardeless of my age.

this article helps me make my point.... how can you give someone who
does not yet even have the right to vote a credit card?!!
