Dear comicmonkey, Among the names suggested in the comments below this answer, the most striking are hammertime, 123sold, and dGulf. Unfortunately, the .com domain for each of these has already been taken. You are strongly advised not to use anything other than a .com suffix, for users will reflexively enter .com no matter which domain is actually yours. I offer for your consideration the following names, all of which are currently available as a .com domain. hurry2bid hurrytobid breeze2bid breezetobid easybreezybid auctionbuzzard auctionburst auctioncatapult bidfortress mightymightybid ohmybidness bidlikenow auctionbabyauction itsanauction bidlikecrazy soldmyshirt bidmegaphone shoutmyauction screamingauction mach5auction mach10auction zipzipauction bidderfruit bidderalmond bidderending biddertruth almightyauction sterlingbid stellarbid dollarhammer buckhammer buckvault garagebuck mobybuck bucktorrent buckblitz It has been a pleasure to address this question on your behalf. Hmmm. A snappy, catchy name for such an enterprise could mean the difference between make & break. It ought to be worth a lot more than fifty bucks. |

Experience has taught us that these "name my (whatever)" questions are almost always futile. However, I'll take a shot because I simply have nothing better to do. How about ?Vendor Emptor?? (Latin meaning: Buyer/Seller) Your logo could be a mighty Roman gladiator (or shield, sword, helmet or the like) in the style of the statues seen on the promenade at Caesar?s Palace in Las Vegas. tutuzdad-ga |

Actually it's Latin meaning: Seller/Buyer, in that order, but you get my meaning, I'm sure. |

QED, Fact is, that the price on this kind of question is immaterial. For $50, maybe a Researcher will post a long list of names, or a very savvy suggestion of what needs to be considered when choosing a name, but at best there is some brainstorming - more or less entertaining. (I wonder the slogan for that S. American harbor is?). Why was eBay named eBay? Anyway, "snappy, catchy" is good recommendation. :) Myoarin |

How about "Saturnalia" Saturnalia was the festival of Saturn. It was celebrated in ancient Rome at the end of the vintage and harvesting to honor Saturn, the god of agriculture. For one day only, as part of the festivities, masters served their slaves--an acknowledgment of the equality of rank and lack of class distinctions. How might this apply to your auction site? Well, other observances of Saturnalia included the exchanging of gifts , offering of sacrifices (buying and selling of products in your site's case), and unrestrained merrymaking (the finding of great deals, using your auction site). The concept invokes entertainment, excitement, energy, and interaction on a huge scale. tutuzdad-ga |

--OnLive!-- On - because it's online, Live - from live auction, a play on th word "online". And with the exclamation point, because it adds excitement, energy. I could see that name making a good logo and being catchy too. txgirl-ga |

I have to admit, I like tutuzdad's suggestion of Emptor / Vendor. You could even use the slogan "Cogito ergo emptor." (I think, therefore I buy - I'm not sure... could be a slap to Descarte, but no worse than Cogito ergo zoom - I think therefore I go fast used by Car and Driver). Perhaps you could use a "Trekish" sort of engergy excitement sort of thing. Gene's been dead long enough now, someone should be exploiting that in a new way. You could work in a "beaming" or a "transporting" for shipping. Delightfully "geeky" yet completely unrefined. ...oh, BTW I believe the original meaning of eBay was to imply it was a virtual electronic auction bay. What is wrong with eBay? GREED! Needs competition. |

I am sticking with the simple as well, what about E-Bid. E for electronic, excitement, entertainment, energy, and bid, well because it is an on-line auction site? |
