Hello Google, A lady from China and I want to get married, but she came here on a tourist visa and has overstayed the visa for more than a year now. She has no social security number and no valid ID other than her passport. We are in New York. I have done a little research and I do not think Connecticut requires a social security number. We are afraid she will get caught and deported. Is there any where in the USA for us to marry without complications? Carl |

NYC/MHTN. All she needs is her VALID passport. Book a nice extended weekend in the city.... apply for the License Thursday, get married Friday then enjoy the view/shopping/people/food for the rest of the weekend ;-) You won't have any problem. www.hotels.com http://nycmarriagebureau.com/about/marriagelicense.html Manhattan Office Victor L. Robles, City Clerk - Clerk of the Council Municipal Building 1 Centre Street, 2nd Floor South New York, NY 10007 Telephone Number is (212) 669-2400 http://nycmarriagebureau.com/about/marriagelicense.html |

Greetings, The above could be correct, but I believe that she would also need to have a valid US visa, something the City Clerk should want to see. This is the place to start looking: US Citizenship and Immigration Service: http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/extendstay.htm http://uscis.gov/graphics/publicaffairs/newsrels/life081401.htm http://uscis.gov/graphics/services/tempbenefits/index.htm http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/hdifiance.htm The USCIS is not going to tell you how to get around the law or the most expeditious way to solve your problem. I did find a lawyer's site that suggested that if she arrived with a valid visa and overstayed the expiry date, and got married (apparently possible), that in some cases it would be possible for her to become a legal alien. I hope one of the Researchers will be able to give more specific information. |

Hello Everyone! Thanks so much for the information and for the good luck wishes! I found out through the USCIS that I can immigrate her without any problems as long as we are married. I will try calling the New York City Clerk office to verify the information "who3ver" provided since I saw their website and it stated a social security card was needed along with valid ID, which she has. I hope "who3ver" is correct since my girlfriend has no SS card :( Carl |

Good luck :-) she will not be asked to provide a valid visa while getting your marriage license. |
