I've spent an hour with the manual, the remote, and the on-screen
menu, and cannot correct two problems that appear to have occurred
without warning on a JVC AV-20020 television. One morning a digital
clock appeared in blue in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. I
want to get rid of it, but have no clue as to how. Also, the set has
begun to turn itself on and off at specific hours of the day and
night, as if a timer has been set. Again, I want to stop it, but
can't. The user's guide is a calamity, and trying every button on the
screen does nothing. I'm looking for directions in plain English.

tcovert-ga: You've gotten me halfway there, solving the timer problem
for me. Unfortunately, the remote is built by Radio Shack and does not
have a DISPLAY button. And I can't find it using the menu on the set
itself. Any other ideas? Even if we can't fix both problems, I invite
you to post what you've given me so far as an answer so I can pay you.

The Radio Shack remote does not have a specific model number that I
can tell. The manual says "Cat. No. 15-1993." And it's a 4-in-one
Smart Light-Up Remote Control"

In order to deactive the digital clock in the right hand corner of the
screen, press the DISPLAY button on your remote twice.

In order to deactive the on/off timer, select MENU on your remote,
then from the on-screen menu select "ON/OFF TIMER." From this menu
select NO in the category ON/OFF TIMER.
