Question ID: 585552
I?m trying to get my internet connection working with SuSE 10.0.

I have a Linksys WMP54G to get the job done.

I?ll try anything to get it to work ? I?m not afraid of reinstalling
the system, etc.

I have a 64bit WEP key. The SuSE on the system is fresh off the CDs,
downloaded via mirrors. I?m using KDE.

It would be incredibly helpful to get this resolved.

A successful answer will result in me giving awesome feedback...using SuSE!

Howdy degreeman-ga,

Please see if the following installation guide is of help. Even though it
is for "Slackware" the "ndiswrapper" route appears to be the way to go.

"Installing Linksys WMP54G with NDISWRAPPER-11"

Some troubleshooting tips can be found here.

If the above works to answer your question, please tell me so I can post it
as such. Thanks!

denco:

I could not find ndiswrapper-11. Where can I find it, or should I use
the one here? http://sourceforge.net/projects/ndiswrapper/

And where does the wmpci54g.inf file comefrom (in your first link)?

I'm using a custom built machine with a asus p4p800-vm mobo and a
celeron d 330 processor. The wireless card model is a Linksys WMP54G,
version 4.

Yep, degreeman-ga, you can download the latest (1.4) vetsion from the
SourceForge.net website.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ndiswrapper/

It should also be on your SuSE CDs as well. Check the threads linked
below for more.

The driver is the Windows XP one you can download from the LINKSYS
website, or from the WMP54G CD.

Denco,

This is lame and annoying. Last night, I followed some advice from
http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.php?showtopic=22411 then went
to sleep.

I turned on my computer today, and I have internet access.

Today I restarted the computer. All the sudden, I don't have internet
access. I turn the computer off, then turn it on. I have internet
access again...unless I need to restart. Also, internet access is
slow.

How can I get this to stop happening, and will ndiswrapper increase
speed? If not, can it be uninstalled?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux, degreeman-ga.

From my research, it appears that using "ndiswrapper" is the most
documented, that is, what appears to be the best route to getting
your LINKSYS working.

Yes, you can uninstall "ndiswrapper" if you find it is not working
for you.
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/index.php/Uninstall

"Starting with version 1.0, you can uninstall programs and modules
installed with 'make uninstall' in ndiswrapper directory."

I tried installing ndiswrapper, but SuSE rejected the driver. I poked
around the internet and FINALLY found these
(http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Downloads). I'll let
ya'll know how these works. It appears that the provided windows
driver (both from the CD and linksys' website) is not adequite for
linux.
