I am sorry to hear about your condition. Fraud is not the answer. Contact GMHC and see if they can do anything for you (they'll help even if you are not gay). |

Have you looked at the new non-insurance health discount plans? Current medical problem treatments are discounted the same as new problems with no waiting period. Discounts anywhere from 50% to 90%. Available in many states now - should be nationwide no later than Jan 1 2006. Inexpensive, no length of term requirements - could be used temporarily while you search for insurance, or wait for pre-existing conditions to be covered - usually 12 months or so on new policies. If you are interested in specifics please clarify that here and I'll come up with a web address for you. Warm Regards. |

I am a medical student in North Carolina and have recently recieved several lectures on HIV and HIV therapy. I directly spoke with the doctor giving the presentation about how an individual could access care, even without insurance. He works in the hospital affiliated HIV clinic and stated that all patients that need care, can obtain it. HIV clinics (especially at University, academic Hospitals) recieve grant money to support and sustain the clinic. It is great that you are seeking care for your diagnosis. HIV therapy has come a long way since the introduction of ART-anti retroviral therapy. (2 pills a day with little side effects, vs frequent high doses with negative side effects). Patients seeking care can engage in clinical trials or research in order to obtain the medicine you need. It will just require a little bit of work on your part. http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu/InSite?page=li-05-19 http://www.amfar.org/cgi-bin/iowa/programs/publicp/z.record.html?record=219 http://hab.hrsa.gov/programs/factsheets/adap1.htm This link will give you a few nation wide resources that wi Seek out a state clinic. Find pharmaceutical assistance programs. Be upfront about your situation, and understand that nothing in life is free, but in your situation, your quality and duration of life will be drastically improved. You may have to agree to clinical trials, but the medications are well worth it. |
